Fuerzabruta
From the creators of the smash-hit De La Guarda, Fuerzabruta is an event where worlds collide, dreams are real and reality takes a back seat. The visuals are spectacular. The effects are stunning. Performers run and tumble across a vertical wall of technicolor cloth, a man runs headlong through a wall, two people try desperately to connect from opposite sides of a huge spinning and whirling sail and – most extraordinary of all – performers dance in watery world just above the audience’s heads. This all takes place to a soundtrack that traverses thumping club beats to the mellow sounds of new world music. Fuerzabruta has taken Europe and South America by storm --- its New York debut is one of the most anticipated events of the Fall season.
Hoist the Curtain, Prepare the Pool, It’s Almost Showtime (New York Times) Fuerzabruta, a highly complex show to install, uses a set that includes two mobile pools, a 6-foot-high treadmill and a 20-foot flying curtain.
Never Mind the Monologue: Audition by Endurance (New York Times) Six feet off the ground, on a treadmill in a darkened theater, J. D. Smith was running, really pounding it, his forehead blistered with sweat, his white shirt billowing.
Life as a Runway | Theater of the Absurdly Messy (Slide Show; New York Times) On a recent Saturday, young people were drawn by the clublike spectacle that is “Fuerza Bruta” (“Brute Force”).
